Movie project

reflection

  1. Purpose
The purpose of this project was to convey information about genetics through a movie. During this project we had individual roles like actors set builders, and so on I was an editor. During this project I think I did this pretty well and finished editing all of the footage we got. As a class we met the goal aswell although we didn't get to the 20 minutes we wanted we ended up conveying the information.
  1. Warm Feedback
During filming we were using Roxy’s mics they produces good sound but maxed out quickly and picked up lots of noise. Because of that I had to try and make the sound sound the best I could, which I think I did a good job on. As a class I think we really pulled the project together at the end. We realised that we wouldn't get done and set up an exhibition around that; showing our process and our unfinished movie.
  1. Areas for Growth
Many of the challenges  the class, and I experienced were with quality. Because we were on a tight schedule much of what we were filming was final. There were some parts where the audio from the mic was lost and some where we had to zoom super far in when the camera we were using was low resolution but, we ended up finding ways to deal. Because of this, I think a good tip for next year is keep organized. Make sure you have all the footage named, all the audio in one place, and use the same camera because the movie would have been way easier to edit if everything was organized.
Like I said above we were un organised. The actors would get their lines and be told to memorise them and then film. Half the time the camera man wouldn't show up and sometimes without a camera. People didn't pay attention to what they were recording, and we even lost some footage because of a misplaced SD card. After all of these problems occurred the editors me and sadie were the ones who had to stitch it all together.
  1. Looking forward: If you were to do this project again...
Our approach to this project and to collaboration was you do your job i’ll do mine. Because the making of a movie is so linear many people were out of a job at the beginning and were struggling to keep up at the end, this is also what caused a lot of discoordination. To fix this we just need to work as a team more. At the beginning all work on the script, and on set design, and later all work on filming and acting so we aren't so split. Though working with the whole class was hard it worked well. It would have been much harder to make a movie like that in smaller groups, and it forced us to work with people we weren't familiar with.
